Bedroom Talk

how do I keep a bedroom door from autoclosing?

There are a couple of bedroom doors in my house that automatically close unless you put something in front of them to keep them open. Does anyone have any quick fixes for this problem besides putting something in front of the door? My problem is that they don't close quite all the way, and then our puppy goes in them and can't get back out. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

  1. There are magnetic doorstops that will keep the door open.
  2. you could put a wooden block infront of it
  3. it is a draft of some kind. check around the windows, and find the draft by holding a lit candle near the window, if the flame pulls toward the window you should probably seal them with weather stripping. it will save you $$ on your heating also.
  4. I have a bedroom door that closes like that. The door maybe not be lined right on the hinges.
  5. more than likely the doors are out of balance.this means the door frames may shifted.MOVE THE HINGE ON TOP TO GET A BALANCE.or it could be your house is settling on the foundation.
  6. springs or magnets to close or open.....at home store..
  7. maybe you have perco's fitted(look to see if your door has a little chain between door and frame), or sprung hinges if not then your door frame is probably not upright ( check with sprite level) if this is so moving the top hinge a little out and the bottom a little in may work
  8. Most likely it's like a few others already said, the doors hinges are not right. Make sure that all the screw holes have screws (top & bottom). Then try to tighenten them all up, until the door swings freely & doesn't close-up. If that's not it, it also could be the frameing on the doors. The may need some more shims put in, to hold the door level. Good Luck!
  9. You can get srping-loaded hinges or install a mechanical catch that holds the door open. Go to the door hardware department of a home improvement store and look/ask around for doorstops and/or spring-loaded hinges.
  10. once you check everything everybody else mentioned take one of the pins out and put it on a solid (concrete) surface and tap it with a hammer, not too hard just to give it a slight bend (obviously if its really bent it wont go back in) and put it back in this will give a little more friction in the hinges and keep fido from getting stuck
