Bedroom Talk

What color schemes or decorating ideas that include red would be good for a bedroom?

Im trying to get ideas to decorate my bedroom. I have dark red curtains that I am trying to match around and one dark wood and bamboo chest. Its a pretty large room and I only have a twin size bed at the moment. Thats pretty much all that is in the room right now. I want to paint the walls too. I am on a very VERY tight budget, but any ideas, ie colors, themes etc would be helpful. Thanks

  1. Go to this site and experiment with some colors to see what works best for you: http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/ I would try using some camel tans or some very soft mossy sage greens. Good luck!
  2. Red,white, charcoal and black. These colors will work great together if you plan them out right. I would suggest you go easy on the accessory colors so that red shows as your primary color scheme when you are done.
  3. Find some bedding that matches your curtains first and take your accent colors from it. http://www.target.com/Thomasville-Milicent-Bedding-Collection/dp/B000OKT7VE/qid=1215012758/ref=br_1_9/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=14125291&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=14125291&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=2 http://www.target.com/Bourbon-Bedding-Collection/dp/B0007V9U1W/qid=1215012758/ref=br_1_16/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=14125291&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=14125291&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=2 http://www.target.com/Patchouli-Bedding-Collection-by-Thomasville/dp/B0002HSK5I/qid=1215012758/ref=br_1_14/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=14125291&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=14125291&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=2 http://www.target.com/Thomasville-Laval-Bedding-Collection/dp/B000MM6STI/qid=1215012895/ref=br_1_8/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=14125291&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=14125291&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=3 http://www.target.com/Fieldcrest-Luxury-Jacquard-Bedding-Collection/dp/B0019F5AXM/qid=1215012895/ref=br_1_10/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=14125291&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=14125291&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=3 http://www.target.com/Sarahs-Rose-Bedding-Collection/dp/B00115B95S/qid=1215012952/ref=br_1_8/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=14125291&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1 http://www.target.com/b/ref=in_se_pagelist/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&itemsPerPage=50&node=187364011&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=187364011&rank=pmrank&viewID=leaf&field-pricebin=&store=&size=50&rh=&page=1&fromBrowse=1 A taupe, mushroom or sandy shade would look good with any of these. You could also go for a contemporary look by using black and white. Just add a few red accent pillows to a comforter like one of these. You could paint the walls a light gray. http://www.target.com/Isaac-Mizrahi-Target-Matrix-Collection/dp/B000CRB500/qid=1215013010/ref=br_1_12/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=13010721&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1 http://www.target.com/Zeus-Comforter-Set/dp/B000JIJ8GU/qid=1215013010/ref=br_1_1/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=13010721&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1 Browns and red look good together too. Again, paint a sandy shade and use accent pillows with some red in them. http://www.target.com/450-Thread-Count-Damask-Stripe-Bedding-Collection/dp/B00132DDEE/qid=1215013230/ref=br_1_16/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=14122231&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=14122231&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=5 http://www.target.com/Thomas-O%E2%80%99Brien-Neutral-Bedding-Collection/dp/B000FRE1NA/qid=1215013411/ref=br_1_10/601-5169538-7103314?ie=UTF8&node=14122231&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=14122231&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=1 You could also paint your walls a buttery yellow, use a light yellow comforter and add accent pillows to bring it all together. 4. A cheerful look would be to paint your walls a yellow shade. It will look good with red or burgundy and not make the bedroom look cave like. You can dress it up with a comforter set that is a Hawaiian theme with the red hibiscus flowers on it. I've seen at The Dollar Tree bamboo place mats that you could hang for valances or even just use table runners! Stay away from Green, you don't want your room to reflect the "Christmas" mood!
  5. It depends on the mood that you are going for... Many colors can be complimentary to Red, especially depending on the red you select. Often times the best idea is to go to a home store like home depot or lowes and look at the color sheets for paint. A few beautiful rooms that I have enjoyed are ones that make it individual. Red/black/white is more modern, Red/browns/tans/white is a fading trend that was really in a few years back. One of my favorites is a room based on a feeling. If you use all dark furniature you will want to stay away from white walls. I this case you could do the wall that will have the backboard of the bed against a more crimson based red. Once you have the dark tone and the red, often it looks very clean to do an all white bed. If you're looking for a soft inviting look avoid down which flattens over time. Bed bath and beyond has some INCREDIBLE Duvets ( http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&brn=1&SKU=114729 ). They are warm and lighter than the traditional down duvet and are not actually down, avoiding the chance of allergy. For a nice one you'll probably look at spending about 150-200.00. You want all the furniature to match, so be sure when you are picking out a bed, that there are night stands/dressers/chest etc that will match the tone of the wood. The sets you can buy are more often than not too trendy. I would suggest looking for pieces that match in tone/style/ but aren't exactly the same. It gives the room a warmer feel. Next accents. For the bedside table/night stand, it depends on where the room is located. If the room is very well lit and/or you have ceiling lighting, you will only need one lamp. For any tables you will want a clear vase with pretty flowers. Many people are against fake/silk flowers, but there are some beautiful options out there, that one would never guess is not freshly picked from a garden or floral shop. Japanese cherry blossoms normally look beautiful in a room based on red, dark woods, and white. Also, take in to mind the color of your carpet. This can make or break a beautiful room. If the carpet you have is A:ugly B:not in good condition C:not the right color (the list could go on for days)... Look in to a rug. Ikea, surprisingly, has some really affordable and neat rugs. There are other places to buys rugs, but the larger the area, the more expensive they get. Best suggestion would be to go to borders or barnes and noble and get some home magazines... they always have neat ideas for sprucing up a room or doing a complete 180! They have great tips on how to save and where to find things. And this way you can see actual pictures for the style you want. :) Good luck!
